1. Why do I need to have a Plugin Alliance account to use Hears Perfection?
Great question! Hears Plugins is just two people—Doug and Toby. Shortly after creating Hears V1, we partnered with Plugin Alliance/Brainworx because they’re world-class developers. When you purchase from us, it truly helps support our families, and we’re grateful! And since BX/PA developed it, Plugin Alliance handles activation, updates, and security. After purchase on our site, you’ll simply redeem your license on the Plugin Alliance site and install using their installation manager or the Hears Perfection installer if you choose not to use their manager. It’s one extra step—but it helps us keep building useful tools for creators, and we thank you for supporting small business!
2. Why did you make a new plugin instead of updating the original “Hears” V1?
Because what started as “just an update” turned into something way better.
After launching HEARS in 2021, we partnered with Plugin Alliance in early 2025. That meant our little plugin got handed over to their in-house dev team at Brainworx (and let us tell you—they’re amazing).
We thought they’d just patch a few things… instead, they rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up, resulting in a smoother, more powerful version of what we always dreamed HEARS could be:
- A stunning new, resizable UI that looks and feels great to use
- Easy installs—no more issues
- A better, more accurate (and better sounding according to some users) EQ for truer mixes
- A more accurate hearing test with Mute and Back buttons, so you can test with confidence
- Extra monitoring options: Mid, Sides, Left, Right so you can really zoom in on every part of your mix
We honestly couldn’t be more excited—or more thankful—to have Brainworx and Plugin Alliance bringing our vision to life.
3. Was there an upgrade path from the original HEARS plugin?
Yes! From Sept. 2025 through January 2026, all previous V1 users of the original “Hears” plugin were eligible for an upgrade to HEARS PERFECTION for just $19.99. We sent four emails reminding customers to upgrade, and the majority of our users upgraded. Thank you!
4. I’m a previous customer—why haven’t I received the upgrade offer?
There are a couple of possibilities:
- It may have landed in your spam folder.
- A few of our customers no longer use the email address they used when they bought Hears V1.
- Or, we just missed you. (We’re a two-person team—Toby here, and Doug over in Nashville—doing our best to keep up with a growing worldwide community!)
On September 10, 2025 we sent a few thousand emails with upgrade vouchers. We sent 3 more reminder emails through January 2026. When we noticed customers unsubscribing from our email list, we felt like we were sending too many reminders so we stopped. 🙂

5. What are the minimum required specifications to use your plugins?
Supported Plugin Formats : AAX Native, AU, VST3
Supported Operating Systems: macOS 26 down to macOS 13/Windows 11 down to Windows 10
Mac – Intel, or Apple Silicon PC – x64-compatible CPU
System Requirements: Display resolution: 1440 × 900px or 1280 × 960px or higher
Memory: 2 GB RAM
6. Why is HEARS PERFECTION sold here and on Plugin Alliance’s site?
The plugin (as well as updates and support) is the same at both places.
